With one of Belgium’s largest IP departments, ALTIUS has built a stellar reputation as a go-to outfit for patent and trade secret instructions. It particularly thrives in the life sciences and regulatory arena, representing major players in the space, and department head Christophe Ronse lends his encyclopedic knowledge to these mandates. His reputation has established him as a renowned figure in the Belgian IP scene, as exemplified by his six-year tenure as president of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property’s (AIPPI) Belgian Association, his continuing commitment as a deputy judge of the Court of Appeal, and as an officer of the IP committee under the International Bar Association. Newly promoted partner Kirian Claeyé is also building a name for himself on the market and is a crucial contributor to Belgian IP law. Alongside Ronse he has been entrusted to co-author the fifth overview of Belgian patent case law. They also make an excellent team in court and, of late, have led several landmark cases, including the representation of Moderna on a patent infringement case against Pfizer and BioNTech regarding mRNA technology. Completing the line-up, Philippe de Jong is a noteworthy specialist in plant variety rights and parallel import issues, and has most recently represented GEEFA on an infringement and damage proceedings case against the illegal reproduction and selling of this pear variety. De Jong serves as head of the ALTIUS agri-food law practice and is a consultant for the EU Plant Variety Rights Office.
