Álvaro Arias

Álvaro Arias has more than ten years of professional experience in intellectual and industrial property. 

He specializes in strategy and prosecution of patent applications, utility models, industrial designs at a national and international level, state-of-the-art searches, patentability analysis, freedom-to-operate reports, intellectual assets management policies, and technological surveillance and intelligence reports. He has collaborated with major universities and national companies in the food, veterinary, and plastics sectors to manage and protect their intellectual assets.

Currently, Mr Arias has been working in ClarkeModet Peru as the Country Managing Director. He has also held positions during his professional path in this company as an IP specialist and patent area coordinator.

He is a pharmaceutical chemist with postgraduate studies in biotechnology, pharmaceutical law, intellectual property, and Industry 4.0. The College of Pharmaceutical Chemists has licensed and qualified him since 2013.

Mr. Arias worked at the Patent Office of Peru for one year as an assistant in the technical area of the Inventions and New Technologies Directorate. After that, he worked for two years as a technical assistant in the Regulatory Affairs department of the Peruvian subsidiary of the transnational pharmaceutical company Merck Sharp & Dohme. Subsequently, he worked for four years in the important law firm Estudio Colmenares & Asociados, initially as a patent analyst and later as coordinator of the patent area.

His education includes:

• Pharmacy degree at Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos;
• Master’s degree in biotechnology at Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos
• Specialization in intellectual property and pharmaceutical law at Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia, and
• Specialization in Industry 4.0 at CENTRUM Business School – Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú.
