Gary Wilson

Gary has extensive experience covering the chemical, medical device, pharmaceutical and mechanical fields. He has represented a range of local and international companies across these technologies for more than 20 years.

Gary is personally mentioned and recommended in leading legal directories such as the Legal 500, Managing Intellectual Property (MIP) and Intellectual Asset Management (IAM) 1000 which lists the world's top 1000 patent practitioners. He has been personally listed in the IAM 1000 from 2014-2022 and been an MIP Star from 2014-2022. He is also a listed IAM Global Leader.

Gary provides commercially focussed advice to a range of organisations. This includes advising on all aspects of patent filing strategies, freedom-to-operate opinions, infringement and validity opinions, due diligence and licensing issues. He also has experience in successfully guiding companies through funding rounds.

He also regularly represents clients in Opposition and Appeal Proceedings and is highly sought after by clients due to his advocacy skills in both defending and opposing European patents. He also has the Litigation Certificate from the Politecnico di Milano to act before the new Unified Patent Court (UPC).

Gary has led the firm to winning the MIP Scottish IP Firm of the Year Award on numerous occasions and to being a Tier 1 legally ranked firm. He joined HGF as a Partner in 2007 to open and manage the firm’s first Scottish office. He has sat on the firm’s Strategy Group, International Review Committee and run the Chemistry Group. He is also on the firm's Management Board.
