René Raggers graces the practice with a rich portfolio of technical, legal and corporate experience, both domestically and internationally. As a “strong technical strategist, his ability to explain the most complex subject matter in a clear and convincing manner” means that he has been entrusted with extremely high-profile cases, including with global pharmaceutical giants Pfizer and BionTech. Also on deck, Rutger Valkonet is an astute practitioner and a trustworthy adviser who thrives in guiding start-ups and SMEs through the prosecution process, while striking a healthy balance between profit and risk.

Rutger Valkonet's Profile

When Rutger Valkonet joined AOMB in 2000, he was the sole physicist among the patent attorneys. “The more complex inventions, such as those related to radiation physics, implants, or optics, landed on my desk. It wasn’t until later that the firm expanded, and we developed a high-tech team, allowing us to distribute these intricate cases more effectively. If you ask me what cases I find most interesting, I have a particular affinity for inventions in the medical field because they always have a social impact. However, inventions that are closer to home, like specific kitchen appliances, also continue to captivate me.”

Rutger is exceptionally well-versed in the cultural differences between European and Asian business practices. His love for history and backgrounds means he meticulously researches before visiting a new country. Ask him why people in Korea use silver chopsticks, and you'll be treated to a conversation filled with intriguing facts and anecdotes. “I have always had a broad interest in history and travel. I find it fascinating to create business opportunities where cultural differences are involved. Americans and Dutch people have different approaches to business and personal interactions compared to people from Asia. I find it intriguing to successfully establish personal and professional connections despite these differences.”
